Industrial loading operations demand more than raw lifting power. They require precise control, repeatable positioning, and the ability to integrate into production workflows without introducing downtime or safety hazards. The Herochu servo-driven steel sheet handling manipulator arm addresses these requirements through a design philosophy centered on servo accuracy, modular flexibility, and failsafe operation.
Servo Control Architecture
At the core of this system is a high-torque servo synchronous lifting mechanism paired with servo-driven arm positioning transmission. Unlike conventional pneumatic or hydraulic manipulators that rely on mechanical stops and manual adjustment, the Herochu unit uses closed-loop servo control to regulate acceleration, deceleration, and final positioning. This architecture delivers repeatability within ±0.1mm, a level of precision that eliminates the micro-shifts responsible for edge cracking, burr formation, and downstream misalignment.
The servo motors draw power only during motion, consuming minimal current during holding phases. This electric-only design removes the need for hydraulic fluid, pumps, or hoses—eliminating leak risks and reducing routine maintenance requirements. For facilities operating multiple shifts, the energy savings compound over time.
Construction and Modular Design
The manipulator body employs a modular assembly structure. Laser-cut steel and hard-anodized aluminum components bolt together into a rigid yet reconfigurable frame. When production layouts change, the unit can be disassembled and reinstalled without specialized tooling or extensive recalibration. This modularity also reduces space waste: the arm geometry can be adjusted to match the actual distance between pickup and placement points rather than forcing the workflow around a fixed footprint.
The suction cup array consists of multiple heavy-load oil-resistant cups, each equipped with an independent open/close valve. This valve-per-cup arrangement allows the system to adapt its gripping pattern to different sheet sizes. For smaller plates, only the necessary cups activate; for full-size sheets, the entire array engages. The SNS pneumatic system regulates vacuum pressure consistently across all active cups, maintaining grip strength regardless of material surface condition.

Sheet Separation and Material Compatibility
A persistent challenge in sheet metal loading is double-sheet pickup—two or more thin plates adhering due to oil film, static charge, or surface tension. The Herochu manipulator addresses this through an integrated sheet separation function. Before lifting, a controlled air pulse or mechanical action breaks the adhesion between stacked sheets, ensuring only a single plate enters the processing machine. This prevents misfeeds that could damage laser nozzles or cause press misalignment.
The system handles carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum across thickness ranges from 1mm to 20mm, depending on model configuration. The oil-resistant suction cups maintain grip on lightly oiled stock, a common condition in raw material storage.
Safety Systems
Safety is engineered into every operational layer. The power-off and air-off protection system ensures that if electrical or pneumatic supply is interrupted during a handling cycle, the held material will not fall from the suction cups for a minimum of five minutes. This window provides operators time to clear the area and restore utilities safely.
An emergency stop braking system halts all servo motion instantly when activated. The brake is spring-applied and electrically released, meaning that any power loss—including a tripped breaker or severed cable—engages the brake automatically. The swing arm and vertical lift axes are both secured.
All gas pipes follow standardized color coding: blue for intake, red or orange for output. Every pneumatic connector carries a label for quick identification during maintenance. Safety warning labels, maintenance labels, and operation instructions are affixed at key access points.

Control and Integration
The system uses an original imported Omron CNC control platform. Operators interact through a touch screen communicating with the PLC via network cable. Button function identifiers are provided in both Chinese and English, supporting deployment in international facilities and mixed-language workforces. The device offers two operating states—manual and automatic—allowing technicians to jog individual axes during setup or troubleshooting while running fully automated cycles during production.
Installation is guided by experienced Herochu technical engineers who perform on-site calibration of servo parameters and vacuum system settings to match specific sheet sizes and weights. This application-specific commissioning ensures the manipulator performs at specification from day one.
