The Manipulator: Where Material Meets Machine

The end effector combines vacuum suction with mechanical gripping, a dual strategy that allows the system to load raw sheets with gentle distributed force and unload cut skeletons with positive engagement. For aluminum, the vacuum cups use a softer compound and a lower holding pressure to avoid marking the surface. For steel, higher vacuum levels and a more aggressive separation cycle ensure reliable pickup from dense stacks. Each suction cup has an independent control switch, and the PLC activates only the zones in contact with solid material. This matters for nested sheets where large cutouts would otherwise bleed vacuum and compromise grip on the remaining skeleton.

Separation Technology: The Difference Between Running and Babysitting

Double-sheet pickup is the most common failure mode in automated sheet handling. It happens when residual oil, vacuum between flat surfaces, or simple surface tension causes two sheets to lift as one. The consequences range from a rejected part to a damaged laser head. Herochu’s separation system addresses this with a mechanical and pneumatic sequence. The Z-axis applies a controlled micro-bending force to the sheet edge, breaking the bond between plates. Compressed air then injects through precision nozzles into the gap, completing the separation. Load sensors and thickness detection verify the result before the gantry moves the sheet toward the laser. The entire sequence adds seconds to the cycle—far less time than recovering from a double-sheet crash.

Specifications for Real Production Environments

The HC-RT series covers sheet dimensions from 2500×1300 mm to 6000×1500 mm, with load capacities of 300 kg to 500 kg. Gantry traverse speed runs 10–30 m/min, lifting speed 5–10 m/min, and fork adjustment 5–20 m/min. Repeatability holds at ±2 mm. Air supply requires 0.6–0.7 MPa. The gantry structure uses a dual-girder composite truss architecture that distributes bending loads across paired guidance rails, maintaining rigidity even under long-stroke operation. Longitudinal travel is customizable up to 50 meters for large workshop layouts. The pneumatic rotating structure turns sheets 90 degrees, accommodating transverse and longitudinal feeding without manual intervention.
