Manual Crank Cantilever Rack for Steel Bar, Tube & Pipe

Ask any warehouse manager what the hardest material class to store is, and the answer comes back the same: long steel. Bars, tubes, and pipe do not stack like cartons, do not fit on pallet racks, and cannot be picked by hand. They get parked on the floor in leaning bundles, and every time someone needs a specific size, the whole pile gets disturbed to find it. The Herochu manual crank cantilever rack for steel bar, tube & pipe changes that workflow. The shelves roll out to full extension, the crane lifts exactly the bundle required, and the rack closes back up — storage that behaves like a drawer for material up to 12 meters long.

What Makes a Cantilever Rack “Roll Out”

A conventional cantilever rack holds long material on fixed arms, and the crane must thread the load between the arms from the front. The roll-out version adds a mechanism: each tier of cantilever arms is mounted on a carriage that travels outward on rollers. A hand crank drives the carriage through a gear-and-rack system until the arms extend 100% of their travel, clear of the frame.

The practical effect is simple. The crane hook lowers straight down onto the exposed arms, picks the bundle, and lifts — no angling the load, no swinging it between uprights, no reaching into a cage of steel. It is the same principle Herochu applies across its roll-out rack line: keep the mechanism human-scale and let the crane do the heavy work. Material moves from the rack straight to the saw or terminal by crane. Because the operator stands beside the rack and controls the crank, the whole sequence is visible and deliberate, even with a 5-ton bundle hanging above.

One Rack, Six Material Families

The same frame handles the long-material families that most workshops and warehouses hold:

  • Steel bar. Round bar, flat bar, and rebar in bundles or loose. The compartment dividers stop individual bars from rolling across the rack.
  • Tube. Round and rectangular tube in 6 m, 9 m, and 12 m lengths. The dual-beam support carries the distributed load without bowing the arms.
  • Pipe. Seamless and welded pipe for plumbing, scaffolding, and line applications, stored by diameter so the right size is always visible.
  • Angle iron and profiles. Uneven shapes that refuse to stack neatly sit flat on the arms, sorted by section size.
  • Rollers, mandrels, and shafting. Solid cylindrical stock that damages easily on the ground gets its own bays.
  • Bulk long goods. Anything long and awkward — trim, extrusions, structural sections — that currently lives in a floor pile.

Material can be stored by category or by size, and a tray option is available for leftovers and offcuts, so short remnants stay organized instead of vanishing under the workbench.

Why 100% Arm Extension Matters

Extension is the difference between a shelf and a cave. With partial extension, the crane still has to thread the load between the arms, and the back of the rack stays hard to reach. With Herochu’s 100% extension design, every layer is fully accessible:

  • No wide aisles needed. Material is handled by crane from above, so the rack spacing only needs to fit a person with a crank — not a forklift. The same floor area stores far more linear meters of steel.
  • Direct rack-to-terminal flow. A bundle is lifted from the rack and landed at the cut-off station in one crane move. No intermediate pile, no second handling.
  • Full visibility of stock. With the arms out, the operator sees every bay and every remaining bundle. Stocktaking stops being an archaeology project.
  • Safe slinging. The rigger attaches the sling on open, level arms instead of between stacked bundles, which removes most of the risk in long-material handling.

Single, Double, and Custom Configurations

The HC-G series adapts to the building as much as to the material, and Herochu treats the layout as part of the order:

  • Single units stand against a wall and serve one working side.
  • Double units place two frames back-to-back and serve two bays from a central position, sharing the footprint for better floor utilization.
  • Customized dimensions cover the full range: tier heights matched to your diameters, compartment widths matched to your bundle sizes, and the 600 mm clear space adjusted to your crane hook and sling geometry.
  • Electrically driven roll-out racking is available for plants that want the same layout with motorized extension — the electric option replaces the crank with a push-button drive while keeping the same frame and capacities.

Layer counts run 5 or 6 tiers as standard, every tier rated at 3,000–5,000 kg, and both the structure and the drive are built from Q235B high-strength steel with a dual-beam crossbar design.

FAQ

How much extension do the arms actually achieve? 100%. Each tier rolls fully out of the frame so the crane hook can lower straight onto the arms.

What is the maximum load per tier? 5,000 kg on the HC-G9065 and HC-G12065; 3,000 kg on the HC-G6053S and HC-G6053.

Can one rack store different materials at the same time? Yes. Every tier has independent compartments on both sides, so different diameters, grades, or material types stay separated in one frame.

Is an electric version available? Yes. Herochu offers electrically driven roll-out racking with the same frame and load ratings for plants that prefer motorized extension.

Plan Your Long-Steel Storage

Send Herochu your stock list — material types, diameters, lengths, bundle weights, and quantities — and the engineering team will return a bay layout and a quotation for the right single, double, or customized configuration. The manual crank cantilever rack turns long steel from a floor hazard into a drawer you pull when you need it.
