If it is not used, the remnants accumulate until someone decides the area needs to be cleared, and the material goes to the recycler.

The HC-V2513-8 occupies a footprint smaller than a typical horizontal pallet stack holding the same volume of material. The difference is vertical. Size and Configuration for Real Shops

The workshop reality is that remnant dimensions vary far more than raw sheet dimensions. A fiber laser running a 3000×1500 table produces offcuts that might be 2800×400 millimeters from one job and 600×900 millimeters from the next. A storage system that only accommodates full-size sheets forces the operator to either trim remnants to fit or store them elsewhere — and “elsewhere” almost always means the floor.

Each drawer in the HC-V2513-8 provides a 2500×1000 millimeter storage surface, which accommodates large drops and small trims within the same tier. Operators can place multiple smaller remnants on a single drawer without interference, and the full-extension design ensures that nothing gets lost at the back. The HC-V3015-8 extends this to 3000×1500 millimeter material for shops running larger laser formats.

The tier count is configurable at order. A shop with modest remnant volume can specify six tiers and expand later. A high-volume operation can specify twelve or more. The frame accommodates the drawer count without structural modification, which means the storage capacity can grow with the shop’s production volume rather than requiring replacement.

The Workshop Logistics Problem

Consider a typical fabrication shop sequence. A job requires 3 millimeter stainless steel. The operator pulls a full sheet from primary stock, loads the laser, and runs the nest. After the parts are removed, the skeleton and remaining material become a remnant. The operator has three options: store it properly, lean it against a wall, or leave it on the floor near the machine.

Option one requires a storage location that is immediately accessible and immediately available. If the rack is ten meters away and requires moving other material to access, option one is not realistic. Option two creates a tripping hazard and material damage risk. Option three works until the floor near the machine becomes cluttered, at which point the remnant is moved — often to a less convenient location — or discarded.

The operator pulls a drawer, places the remnant, and slides it closed. The total time investment is under thirty seconds. Material Protection as a Cost Control Measure

Sheet metal remnants are often more vulnerable to damage than full sheets. They lack the mass and rigidity that help full sheets resist bending and surface damage. A thin remnant leaned against a wall will warp. A remnant placed on a stack of other remnants will accumulate scratches. A remnant stored in a damp corner will rust.

Herochu’s drawers include soft, non-skid rubber floor liners as standard. The 50 millimeter partition heights prevent thin material from sliding during drawer movement. The clear vertical spacing between tiers — adjustable from 50 to 200 millimeters — prevents the drawer above from contacting the material stored below. These details matter because a damaged remnant is functionally equivalent to no remnant at all. If the material must be trimmed or scrapped, the storage system has failed in its primary purpose.

A Note on Drawer Mechanics

The drawers in Herochu’s workshop-oriented racks use mechanical-assisted discharge. This means an operator can extend a fully loaded drawer without powered assistance. The bearing and rail geometry keeps the pull force within a range that a single technician can manage, even when the drawer holds 1000 kilograms of material. The drawer locks in the extended position until deliberately released, which prevents retraction during loading and retrieval operations.
