What Makes a Pipe Rack Adjustable
Adjustable, in an automated rack system, does not mean a hand-cranked shelf. It means the entire storage geometry – layer count, rack count, drawer dimensions and loading height – is configurable at the design stage and extensible afterward.
Independent shelf movement – each level moves on its own, so one bundle never blocks another.
Customized layer counts – 5, 6 or 8 layers per tower in the standard range.
Customized rack counts – 8 to 10 racks per line, arranged to the site layout.

Sizing the System to Your Building
The three standard models are starting points, not limits. The HC-X series is sized around two site facts: the longest material you process and the headroom you have. A 6-meter program fits the HC-X6053-8; 7- and 8-meter programs step up to the X7065-10 and X8085-10. Floor-mounted rails can be laid out in a straight line for a narrow bay or shaped to the building, and the shared picking aisle keeps the occupied width to a single gantry envelope plus rack depth. Herochu engineers the rail layout, tower height and aisle position from a site drawing before a single frame is fabricated.
Bins for Long, Short and Loose Material
A fabrication shop stores more than full-length stock. Offcuts, short bars and loose bundles need a place too, and the system accommodates them without mixing up inventory. Bins are sized for the material mix; open-bottom drawers let swarf and coolant fall through instead of packing into the drawer; perimeter retention pins and closed-side options keep round stock from rolling off in transit. Herochu drawer design balances density against accessibility, so high-volume stock sits where the gantry reaches it fastest.
The value of adjustability shows up in the second and third year of operation. Production programs change, and a fixed rack either absorbs the change with wasted space or forces a new investment. An adjustable line reconfigures: layer counts, rack positions and drawer layouts move with the program, and the control software updates the inventory map to match. For contract manufacturers that quote different work every quarter, that flexibility is the difference between a storage asset and a storage liability.
Because every drawer is tracked by load cells and scanned by barcode or QR, short material is inventoried with the same accuracy as full bundles – the system always knows what is left, even when a drawer holds a mix of lengths.
Heavy-Duty Construction and Gantry Precision
Heavy-duty use means heavy loads, day in and day out. Standard per-level capacities run from 3,000 to 5,000 kg, and the gantry holds ±2 mm repeatability at travel speeds of 5-30 m/min and lifting speeds of 5-15 m/min. PLC touchscreen control keeps the operator in command: call up a bundle, watch the real-time stock display, and let the machine handle the rest.
The result is a rack system that does not flex under load, does not drift out of alignment, and does not need its shelves re-leveled after a season of hard use.
Construction follows the load path. Rack frames are sized to the maximum per-level load, up to 5,000 kg, with a safety margin that assumes full drawers rather than ideal ones. Shelf engagement is mechanical and interlocked, so the gantry will not travel with a shelf that is not fully seated. Pre-shipment structural load testing verifies every frame against its rated capacity, and the ISO9001 manufacturing system keeps welds, coatings and tolerances consistent from one unit to the next.
Expanding Without Rebuilding
When the program changes, the rack line should change with it – not be replaced. Herochu engineers shelf layouts to on-site material requirements and builds the system for extension: additional racks and layers can be added to the line, and drawer dimensions can be rearranged as the product mix evolves. Custom design engineering with zero MOQ means the system starts as a fit for today and stays a fit for tomorrow.
Expansion follows a clear path. Because the rail bed and control platform are sized at the start, adding racks is a mechanical extension rather than a control retrofit: the PLC is programmed for the final layout, so growth means adding physical positions, not rewiring the system. Drawer dimensions can also be re-arranged within the tower as the product mix changes, which is how the same line stays useful across different programs and different customers.
