Herochu Integrated WMS & Material Flow Storage Solutions for Laser Cutting
Cutting capacity is easy to measure; material flow is not. Plates arrive in batches, sit in stacks, get picked by hand, and move through the laser in an order that depends on whoever is working that day. When the flow is manual, the cutting machine becomes a bottleneck only part of the time, while the rest of the delay hides in the warehouse. The Herochu integrated WMS and material flow storage solution treats storage, retrieval, feeding, and unloading as one controlled workflow. A PLC-based control system coordinates a double-tower warehouse, a gantry truss manipulator, and a finished material truck with the laser cutting machine, so material moves in the same order the production plan requires.

One PLC, One Workflow
The control backbone of the system is a PLC that talks to the laser cutting machine’s own control. Because the Herochu unit is designed to be compatible with all major CNC laser cutting machine brands, integration follows a plug-and-play pattern: the manipulator, the warehouse, and the machine sync through the PLC without custom control rewiring on every installation. The workflow covers automatic issue from storage, automatic reclaim of finished parts, and the full sequence of sheet separation, feeding, and blanking in between. Because the PLC coordinates issue and reclaim, the warehouse never hands out a plate the machine is not ready to receive. Operators interact with one interface instead of chasing material across several machine panels.
The Material Journey Through the Unit
Following a plate through the Herochu unit shows where the control actually lives. Inbound plates are booked into the three-dimensional warehouse, where the tower stores them in 8 to 13 layers with up to 3 t or 5 t per layer. When the cutting program calls for material, the PLC issues the right plate; the manipulator separates it with air-blowing and vibration modules, rotates it 90 degrees if the program needs transverse feeding, and places it on the table within ±2 mm. Finished parts are picked up and moved to the finished material truck, and the empty cycle starts again. Every issue and reclaim is recorded by the control system, which gives the production floor a continuous picture of what is in the tower and what has been cut. Each suction cup on the manipulator carries an independent switch, so the gripping pattern is adjusted on the controller, and every configuration change lands in the same cycle log.
WMS and ERP Integration for Production Visibility
An integrated material flow solution becomes more valuable when it connects to the systems that run the business. The Herochu PLC generates the inventory and cycle data that a WMS needs, so the warehouse can be managed against real consumption instead of periodic counts. The same data can feed ERP and production planning, giving purchasing and scheduling visibility into plate stock and cut output. Tower layers can be assigned by material grade, thickness, or job number, which makes the storage side legible to the planning system rather than a black box of stacked plate. In practice, purchasing can order against real tower stock, the scheduler can assign layers to jobs, and a quality issue can be traced back to the batch and layer that produced it.
Settings, Monitoring, and Debugging From the Screen
All settings, monitoring, and debugging on the Herochu system are operated by hand on the touchscreen. Parameters for the feed cycle, suction cup selection, rotation, and mode switching are changed on screen, and diagnostics are available without opening panels or calling for a specialist on every adjustment. Automatic feeding mode and manual feeding mode switch on the same screen, so the unit adapts to different working states during the day. Because the interface is quick and direct, the system stays under the control of the production team rather than becoming a black box that only the integrator understands.
Simple Structure, Low Cost to Run
The mechanical design of the Herochu unit follows the same philosophy as the control design: keep it simple so it stays cheap to run. The structure is simple and easy to maintain, and both use and maintenance costs are extremely low compared with conventional multi-machine handling setups. Fewer moving parts, individually switched suction cups, and a modular tower design mean the components that wear are few and accessible. For a shop owner, that translates into predictable running costs and less downtime budgeted for the handling system itself. The pneumatic rotating structure and the variable frequency motor drive have few wear points, and the individually switched suction cups can be replaced or repositioned without taking the unit offline.
What Integrated Material Flow Does to the Bottom Line
Integrated material flow changes the numbers that matter. The laser machine runs a higher share of the day because material is always available and always positioned. Labor intensity falls because no operator lifts, aligns, or tracks plate by hand, which also removes the safety hazards of manual handling. Scrap falls because every sheet is fed within the same positioning tolerance. Together these effects reduce production costs per cut part, which is the reason shops that install the unit tend to measure the payback in months rather than years. The one-to-two architecture spreads the same control investment across two laser machines, which shortens the payback further for shops that already run a pair of tables.
Connecting the Warehouse to the Machine
Integrated WMS and material flow storage for laser cutting systems is about connecting the warehouse to the machine through one control loop. The Herochu double-tower warehouse, gantry truss manipulator, finished material truck, and PLC give cutting operations a material flow that follows the production plan, with data the business systems can use. Share your machine configuration and inventory workflow with Herochu, and the team will outline the control integration and tower layout for your operation.
