The core of the Herochu system is a loading and unloading gantry robot that travels on floor-mounted linear guide rails. Installation considerations are practical. The main structure has high load-bearing capacity and is constructed from welded steel sections with baked enamel or galvanized finish. Guide rails are precision-ground and anchored into a reinforced concrete floor. The system can be configured to store single profiles or bundled profiles of different types without hardware changes—only software reconfiguration. Bundling is particularly useful for small-diameter pipes or bars where individual handling would be too slow. The gantry’s fork or gripper attachment can be swapped or adjusted, but the standard configuration uses a set of retractable arms that engage the profile from below, lifting it off the supports. For bundled profiles, the arms are wider and have a comb-like structure that distributes lifting force across the entire bundle width.
From an operational perspective, the Herochu automatic storage solution integrates with upstream and downstream processes through inbound and outbound stations. These stations are simple roller conveyors or fixed tables where operators or forklifts place incoming profiles. The gantry picks from the inbound station, reads a barcode or RFID tag (or performs dimensional verification using laser sensors), then deposits the profile into the assigned storage location. Outbound retrieval is the reverse: the gantry fetches the requested profile and places it on the outbound station. For high-throughput operations, multiple gantries can operate on the same rail system with collision avoidance zones managed by the WCS.
Maintenance requirements are low. Chain drives are enclosed and lubricated automatically. Linear guide rails have wipers to exclude debris. The only regular consumables are the polyurethane wear pads on the gripper arms and the chain lubricant.
