System Configuration and Operational Logic

The Herochu smart warehouse consists of four integrated subsystems: the gantry loading and unloading system, the profile material racks, the material frames that interface with stored product, and the floor-mounted guide rails that define the gantry’s travel path.

Material arrives at the system through an entry station — typically a roller conveyor or forklift deposit point. The gantry retrieves the incoming bundle, identifies its storage assignment through the WMS logic, and transports it to the designated compartment. The material frame remains with the bundle throughout its storage life, providing a consistent interface for the gantry lifting forks on every retrieval cycle. When a production order requires material, the system executes the reverse sequence, delivering the requested bundle to a line-side output station.

The entire cycle operates without manual intervention. Average retrieval from proximate bays completes in under 90 seconds, with worst-case retrieval from the farthest compartment completing in approximately 6.5 minutes. For a facility feeding a high-speed production line, this responsiveness ensures that material availability does not constrain throughput.

Digital Inventory and WMS Functionality

The Smart Profile Warehouse Storage System includes a self-developed Warehouse Management System with features designed specifically for long-material inventory management. Length tracking records partial consumption of full-length profiles, assigning remnants to new storage locations. Heat lot segregation prevents mixing of different material batches when quality standards require traceability. Profile nesting suggestions identify which stored profiles should be retrieved together for downstream cutting operations, minimizing offcuts.

Live inventory displays at the cutting station and loading dock provide real-time visibility to production personnel. The WMS communicates with the gantry control system, sequencing retrieval commands to achieve the shortest possible gantry travel path. ERP integration flows inventory transactions bidirectionally, enabling production planning to query availability and trigger material issuance automatically.

Automatic Centering and Load Stability

Profile bundles that shift during storage create retrieval problems. An off-center bundle can cause the gantry gripper to engage asymmetrically, potentially dropping the load or damaging equipment. The Herochu system addresses this through an automatic centering function on the loading platform. When a bundle is placed, a series of pneumatic or electric pushers engages from both sides, aligning the bundle centerline with the gantry’s pick axis before storage proceeds.

Balance management monitors the weight distribution across storage levels. Profiles stored on upper levels create a higher tipping moment on the gantry column. The system’s balance management algorithm redistributes storage assignments automatically, keeping the center of gravity within safe limits. If an operator attempts to store an unusually heavy profile on a high shelf, the HMI displays a warning and suggests a lower location.

Technical Parameters and Customization

The Herochu smart profile warehouse accommodates profile lengths of 6,000 to 12,000 mm. Standard per-level load capacity is 3,000 kg, with 5,000 kg configurations available for heavier material. Storage levels are customizable between 2 and 12, with the number of rack towers configured to match inventory volume targets. Gantry travel speed is adjustable from 5 to 30 meters per minute; lifting speed from 5 to 15 meters per minute. Repeatability of ±2 mm is maintained across all axes through absolute encoder feedback and closed-loop speed control.

The system is available with OEM and ODM support for project-based procurement, with customizable dimensions, load capacities, and storage layer configurations to match specific material handling requirements.
