Herochu Manual Horizontal Sheet Metal Roll-Out Rack
Heavy-Duty, Fully Extractable, Workshop-Ready from $3,099
When every square metre of the workshop earns its keep, storage must do more than simply “hold” material. The Herochu Manual Horizontal Sheet Metal Roll-Out Rack turns dead aisle space into a high-density, high-speed staging area for mild-steel, aluminium, stainless, pre-painted and even composite sheets up to 5 000 kg per drawer. Engineers, laser-cutting job-shops, HVAC contractors and white-goods OEMs across the EU already use the system to feed fibre lasers, panel benders and press brakes without forklifts weaving between benches. One operator, one crane or one manual stacker is enough to present a 4 m × 2 m sheet in under 30 seconds, then retract the drawer so the aisle is clear again.

Built for the weight of real work
The chassis is laser-cut from S355/Q235 steel, 6 mm sidewalls and 8 mm corner gussets, fully welded then stress-relieved at 600 °C to eliminate memory. Drawers ride on sealed flange wheels (Ø 160 mm, 6204-2RS bearings) that are machined from 45# steel bar, not stamped sheet. The wheels run inside a 14 mm cold-rolled C-channel rail that is bolted—never welded—to the mainframe so it can be replaced after 20 years of hard cycles instead of scrapping the whole rack. A single drawer rated at 2 000 kg needs only 18 daN pull force thanks to the wheel geometry; 3 000 kg and 5 000 kg versions use a secondary drop-down roller that engages when the drawer reaches 70 % extension, eliminating cantilever sag.
Safety that earns CE marks
Every drawer is positively locked by a spring-loaded shoot-bolt that automatically engages at full closed and full open positions. A secondary swivel stop prevents accidental roll-out during crane side-loading. The bolt is accessed from the operator side, so hands never reach over suspended sheet. Edge radius on all uprights is 2 mm max; sharp edges are removed before powder coating to protect gloves and painted surfaces. The whole structure is designed in accordance with EN 1993-1-1 and tested to 1.5 × rated load for 1 000 cycles without permanent deformation—documentation supplied with every rack.
Corrosion protection that survives pickling lines
Standard finish is TGIC-free polyester powder, 80 µm average, oven-cured at 200 °C for 20 min, colour RAL 5015 (traffic blue). Pre-treatment is a seven-stage zinc-phosphate dip followed by demineralised rinse, giving 1 000 h salt-spray resistance per ISO 9227. For white-room or food-equipment plants, an optional 275 g/m² hot-dip-galvanised finish is available; for coastal or battery-manufacturing environments we offer 316L stainless rails and drawer frames.

Modular, expandable, future-proof
Racks ship in knock-down form on export-grade ISPM-15 pallets; one 20 ft container takes 18 bases or 54 extensions. Frames bolt together with grade 10.9 hex flanges—no site welding required. Starter bays are 1 300 mm deep × 2 000 mm wide; add-on bays are 1 250 mm wide so the aisle width grows in 1 250 mm increments. Clear inside height per drawer is 200 mm as standard, but spacer sleeves allow 150 mm, 250 mm or 300 mm in the same frame. Need to store 8 mm rubberised sheets tomorrow? Unbolt the sleeves, relocate the adjustable stem, done.
Drawer details that save fingers and time
- Bottom deck is 4 mm laser-cut steel plate, slotted on 50 mm centres so you can drop in M8 threaded locators for odd-shaped blanks.
- Optional PVC, felt or HD-PE glide strips protect polished or pre-painted faces from scratching.
- Side cheeks are 60 mm high to stop the top sheet from drifting; cheeks can be flipped down if you overhang material for crane hooks.
- A 40 × 40 mm square pocket at the leading edge accepts an LED strip or a part-number tag, so the operator sees which drawer to open before he reaches it.
Capacity without compromise
- Standard rating: 2 000 kg / drawer, 20 000 kg per rack (10 drawers).
- Heavy-duty rating: 3 000 kg / drawer on request—same frame, larger bearings.
- Extreme-duty: 5 000 kg / drawer using a manual crank gearbox (ratio 18:1) with overload clutch; crank handle folds away when not in use.
- Roof shelf (fixed) adds an extra 2 000 kg for off-cuts or fixtures.
Clearances that fit your crane
Full extension is 1 150 mm, leaving 850 mm for the hoist hook even on a 2 000 mm-deep drawer. The top of a retracted drawer sits at 1 800 mm, so an overhead bridge crane with 2 500 mm hook height can lift 2 m × 1 m sheets without diagonal tilting. For narrow aisles, the rack can be ordered with 900 mm extension plus 300 mm drop-down support legs that swing out to create a temporary table.

Customisable from day one
Tell us the maximum sheet size, the crane hook height and the fork-truck aisle width; we return a CAD drawing within 24 h showing aisle clearance, centre of gravity and floor loading (max. 2 500 kg point load on 200 × 200 mm pad). Popular options include:
- Numbered drawer fronts in high-vis vinyl
- Aluminium edge rails for non-magnetic stainless
- Grounding lugs for explosion-proof zones
- Roller conveyors integrated into the drawer mouth for push-feed to a shear
- Laser-reflective proximity sensor that locks the crane until the drawer is fully open
Certifications that open every market
Herochu racks carry full EU Declaration of Conformity: Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, EN 13105-2 static steel storage, EMC immunity for optional sensors, and REACH compliance for all surface coatings. ISO 9001:2015 (quality), ISO 14001:2018 (environment) and SGS factory audit reports are renewed annually and supplied in the technical file.
Real-world ROI
A Dutch subcontractor feeding a 6 kW laser replaced six fixed A-frames with four Herochu racks. Floor space dropped from 96 m² to 42 m², crane idle time fell 28 %, and scratch rejections on pre-painted zinc-magnesium sheet went from 3 % to 0.2 % in the first quarter. Payback was 11 months based on rent savings alone.

Next step
Send us the longest and heaviest sheet you store, the clear height under your crane hook and the aisle width you can spare. Within one working day you will receive a dimensioned drawing, floor-loading diagram and a locked-in price valid for 60 days. Place a pilot order for one bay; expand later with identical add-ons because the hole pattern never changes.
Store more, move less, scratch nothing—switch to Herochu Manual Horizontal Sheet Metal Roll-Out Racks and give every sheet a safe, numbered parking space that rolls to the crane, not the other way around.
