A laser cutting machine is only as productive as its loading step. The cutting head can process a 3000 x 1500 mm sheet in minutes, but if the operator spends that same time unloading finished parts and manually loading the next plate, the machine waits. An automatic sheet metal feeder for laser cutting machine loading closes that gap. The Herochu feeder takes a sheet from the stack, separates it from the plates below, and places it on the cutting bed – on its own, in a repeatable cycle, while the operator works on something else.
The feeder is sized for the standard industrial sheet formats used by most laser shops: up to 3000 x 1250 mm in the HC-PR3015 series, and 4000 x 1250 mm in the HC-PR4020 series. Plate thickness ranges from 8 mm to 20 mm, and plate weight from 300 kg to 1000 kg.
What the Feeder Automates on a Laser Line
The loading sequence has four steps, and the feeder executes all four. It grips the top sheet of the stack with suction cups, lifts it clear, travels to the machine bed, and sets it down at a defined position. That covers the physical work. The control side is where the real gain sits: the intelligent PLC system programs the cycle, monitors it in real time, and synchronizes with the laser cutter’s CNC software, so the machine bed is ready for the next sheet the moment the cut program finishes.
Cutting Cycle Time Down: Material Turnover and Throughput
Loading speed shows up in the numbers a shop tracks. The feeder is optimized for standard industrial sheets up to 3000 x 1500 mm, and it shortens the interval between cuts: the plate arrives, is positioned, and cutting starts again without a pause for manual handling. Rapid material turnover means the laser spends more time cutting and less time waiting. For a shop taking on more orders, that is throughput without extending operating hours – the same machine, more finished sheets per shift.
The benefit compounds on two- and three-shift operations. Manual loading does not scale: a tired operator loads slower, and errors cost more at night. The Herochu feeder holds the same cycle time at 2 a.m. as at 9 a.m., which is the difference between a line that runs out a shift and a line that runs through it.

Double Sheet Feeding Prevention
The classic failure of a vacuum loader is double sheet feeding – two plates stuck together by oil film or edge burrs, fed into the machine as one. The Herochu feeder attacks that problem on two fronts. A high-performance auxiliary separation system uses advanced sensors and vibration technology to break the bond between the top plate and the plate below. The sensors detect whether a second sheet is following the first, and the vibration shakes marginal plates apart before they leave the stack. The result: one plate enters the machine at a time, and material jams stop happening.
Positioning Accuracy That Protects the Laser
Repetitive positioning accuracy of ±2 mm matters more on a laser line than on almost any other machine. A sheet placed a few millimeters off center wastes material on the cut layout, and a sheet placed high – colliding with the cutting head or the nozzle – risks expensive optics. The feeder places every sheet in the same spot, cycle after cycle, so the operator sets the cutting program once and trusts it.
The high-torque servo drives keep rotation, lifting, and travel smooth and vibration-free. A jolting load can shift the plate in the cups or scratch the surface; servo-controlled motion holds the sheet steady from pickup to placement.
PLC Integration with Your Laser CNC
The intelligent PLC system is the interface between feeder and laser. It allows easy programming of new jobs, real-time monitoring of the loading cycle, and direct synchronization with the laser cutter’s CNC software. When the cut program ends, the CNC signals the feeder, the next sheet is loaded, and the next program starts. The two machines talk to each other instead of waiting for an operator to notice that the bed is empty.

Safety: Air Pressure and Emergency Braking
Safety is built into every component. The system includes active air pressure protection – a pneumatic fail-safe that locks the load if air pressure drops – and an emergency braking module. If power is lost, the brakes hold the load instantly, preventing the plate from falling on the operator or the machine. On the 300 kg models the locked load is 300 kg; on the larger models it is 500 or 1000 kg. Air cut-off protection and anti-collision devices complete the package.
Model Range and Specifications
Herochu offers five standard models, and the table below lists the feeding thickness, maximum and minimum sheet widths, plate weight, suction cup layout, and power mode for each. The choice follows the plate mix: 8 mm plate up to 300 kg on the -300 models, 12 mm plate up to 500 kg on the -500 models, and 20 mm plate up to 1000 kg on the HC-PR3015-1000.

For a laser shop, the calculation is simple: the feeder removes the most repetitive and most error-prone step in the line, and it performs it at the same speed on every shift. That is the difference between a machine that cuts fast and a line that produces fast. The Herochu automatic sheet metal feeder for laser cutting machine loading is the piece that makes the second one happen.
