When every inch of the workshop costs money and every bar of steel has to be traceable, storage stops being “just racks” and becomes a profit lever. The Herochu Manual Telescopic Cantilever Rack is a heavy-duty, manually operated extension system engineered for single-sided or double-sided storage of round, square, hex and flat bar stock up to 12 m long. Instead of stacking material on the floor or wedging it into static cantilever arms, operators pull out the telescopic carriage, load or unload with an overhead crane, then push the carriage back until the safety latch clicks. The aisle stays clear, the bars stay straight, and the crane time drops by up to 40 % on first-shift trials across EU machine shops.
Built for density, not compromise
Each carriage is welded from European S355 structural I-beam and mounted on sealed bearing rollers rated for 20,000 lb (9 t) per arm. A single rack bay can therefore house 80,000 lb (36 t) per shelf level, while the whole frame remains within FEM 10.2.09 allowable deflection limits. Telescopic travel is 550 mm, 600 mm or 800 mm, chosen to match your crane hook path and ceiling height. Arms are bolted to the column on a 50 mm pitch, so if your next contract switches from 100 mm bright bar to 300 mm forged rounds you simply relocate the arms, no hot-work permits required.

Manual operation, zero power bill
The rack moves by hand; the only electricity you need is for the crane. A low-ratio planetary crank on the carriage face gives 15:1 mechanical advantage, so a 90 kg operator can extend 9 t of steel without strain. When the carriage is fully extended, a captive wedge lock drops automatically to prevent rollback; push the pedal to release. No hydraulics, no PLC, no annual servo-motor service—just wipe the rails and grease the bearings every 500 cycles.

Space-wise footprint
A standard double-sided HC-G9055D bay is 4,505 mm long × 2,280 mm deep × 2,500 mm high and delivers 105 t of storage in 10.3 m². Compare that to traditional fixed cantilever racks that demand a 4 m service aisle on each side and the floor-space saving is 55 %. Add a second or third tier and you can store 300 t of bar stock in the shadow of one 20 t overhead crane, freeing the rest of the bay for machining centres or additional revenue work.

Certified, traceable, insurable
Herochu racks carry CE marking per EN 1090-2 EXC2, are welded under ISO 3834-2 supervision, and are shot-blasted SA 2.5 before a two-coat epoxy-polyester finish in safety orange (RAL 2004) or blue (RAL 5015). Columns and bases are supplied with material 3.1 certificates; each rack leaves our Jiangsu plant with a unique FEM serial plate showing allowable arm load, frame load, and earthquake zone rating. Your insurer receives the documentation pack in advance, cutting policy approval time by half.
From catalogue to custom in five days
Starting price of $3,660 buys a single-sided HC-G6053S three-level starter bay: 6 m storage length, 2 t per arm, 8 t total, delivered FOB Shanghai. Need 9 m, 5 t arms, or a rack that fits under a 3.2 m mezzanine? Send us a sketch; our engineers return a 3-D STEP model and static calculation within 48 h. Optional extras include:

- Polyurethane arm caps to prevent surface marring on polished shafting
- Dividers every 150 mm for bundle segregation
- Floor-mounted laser pointers that show the crane operator the exact centre of gravity before the lift
- Hot-dip galvanized finish for outdoor service centres
- Nestable empty carriages so you can ship the rack flat and assemble on site with nothing more than an impact wrench and a torque wrench
Installation and after-sales
Herochu provides illustrated assembly manuals, M24 anchor layouts, and a 1:1 drilling template. A two-bay system can be erected by three people in four hours. Every rack is guaranteed ten years against structural failure and is backed by a worldwide network of service partners who carry replacement rollers, locks, and arm brackets in local stock. Should you relocate the plant, the modular bolt-together design knocks down into 2 m bundles that fit a 20 ft container; re-assembly is reverse order, no re-welding required.
Typical payback
Customers report average handling-time savings of 2.5 man-minutes per bar. In a shop that processes 80 bars per day, 250 working days per year, the labour saved equals €31,250 at €30/hr fully loaded. Add the floor-space release valued at €90/m²/year and the Herochu rack pays for itself in under eight months—even before you count the reduction in crane wear, bending scrap, and safety incidents.
Order process
- Send us the longest, heaviest, and most awkward cross-section you stock.
- Receive a proposal with arm layout, load diagram, and delivered price in 24 h.
- Approve drawings; production starts day 1, ships week 3, arrives week 5 (EU) or week 7 (US West Coast).
- Install, load bars, and invoice your first downstream customer while your competitors are still shuffling bundles with a forklift.
Stop treating bar stock like a nuisance and start storing it like an asset. Specify Herochu Manual Telescopic Cantilever Rack on your next capital request and turn the steel you buy into the space you save—and the money you earn.
